SWISS has appointed long-serving journalist and aviation specialist Michael Weinmann to be its new Head of Media Relations. He will take charge of the company’s four-member Media Relations team on 1 March 2025. Weinmann succeeds Karin Montani, who is leaving SWISS after 15 years to pursue a new professional challenge.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has appointed Michael Weinmann as its new Head of Media Relations. He will take up his duties on 1 March 2025. In addition to his extensive journalistic experience, Michael Weinmann is a seasoned aviation specialist who also has a personal connection with the sector: as the holder of a private pilot’s license, he brings not only theoretical expertise but also practical flying experience to his new SWISS position.

Michael Weinmann has covered a host of aviation issues over the course of his journalism career, reporting to broad and varied audiences on topics ranging from technological innovations to the introduction of new aircraft types, air traffic management and the industry’s sustainability endeavors. With the combination of his journalistic skills and his thorough understanding of the aviation sector, he is the perfect appointee to this position.

Michael Weinmann can look back already on a multi-faceted journalistic career. In 2009 he joined Swiss Radio & Television (SRF) as a presenter of its ‘Schweiz aktuell’ TV news. He has also served as an editor in SRF’s home affairs department while further making specialist reports and contributions, particularly in the aviation field. Michael Weinmann is 43, is married and has two children.

Aviation in his heart
“Michael Weinmann is an open and engaging individual who has aviation in his heart and will bring a deep understanding of our industry’s many challenges and opportunities to his new remit,” says Léa Wertheimer, Head of Corporate Communications at SWISS. “His journalistic experience, his love of flying and his knowledge of aviation issues make him the perfect choice to further develop our media work at SWISS. And we look forward to welcoming him aboard.”

“I want to offer Karin Montani my sincere thanks for her many years of work and service and all the energies and commitment that she has devoted to the company. With her high professionalism, she has been instrumental in shaping SWISS’s media relations, and has played a crucial part in the success of its external communications,” says Wertheimer.
